The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) took over the role of the Controller of Certification Authority on 1 November 2001 and empowe red to exercise, discharge and perform the duties, powers and functions conferred on it under the Digital Signature Act 1997 (DSA) and the Digital Signature Regulations 1998 (Regulations).
